Music - universal language

Go Tell it on the Mountains

I’m about to write a tome

Of how Universal Language

Of music is well known.

If Music be the food of Love

As the Bard wrote in a play

Then Endless Love would have to be

How music is displayed

But firstly In the Beginning

Before language took a part

The Sounds of Music that were heard

Were from nature’s work of art.

The hills were alive, and so were trees

There was Music in the Air.

Man was not yet on the earth

But music was everywhere

Waves on the Shore

And trickling streams

We Hear the Song

Everywhere it seems

Six Million years Ago

Mankind on earth arrived

And heard the music in the air.

It kept them all alive

They copied the sound

Like Tiktok today.

They took it Nice and Easy

Finding it fun to play

Can you Imagine

A choir of the past

Where people sang

With sounds that Last?

Heard off Far, Far Away

By others on the land

Finding Friends in Low Places

Better than was planned.

But The Great Creation

Helping the song along

Was the musical instruments

Which supported the Song.

Now everyone had The Voice

To sing was part of life

But when it came to instruments

Making them caused strife

To Find A Way if using wood

Pipes or recorder worked the best

Carving a tube with finger holes

Created sounds, adding zest.

So now we have The Singer

We also have support

A group of entertainers

Making functions, fun, a rort.

Now where is all this leading

And just where do we stand?

Well, suddenly there’s musicians

And a Leader of the Band.

We have come A Long Way

Since man first heard the sound

Making people say I Want To Sing

So, sorrows can be drowned.

We now have The Entertainer

Going from Town to Town

Receiving goods for playing

Cheering people feeling down

The music and the songs

Told a Story: short and long

And those became our history

And taught us Right From Wrong.

Good News Travels Fast

By men of many nations

Those stories very much the same

No matter a person’s station

And though Across The Hills

The language it was strange

Encouraged to Join In and Sing

The music was the same.

Musicians now Around The World

Play notes and similar sounds

Our forefathers learned of course

From nature all around.

So now you seen that language

No matter where one lives

Makes sense when there is music

Both have got a lot to give.

And music as we know it

A Language has become

A Universal Language

Spoken by every tongue.
