HERE and NOW

Here in Australia, for the past ten to fifteen years I have been watching the way the world has been changing.  Yes, I am on the outside of many of the terrible happenings, but slowly and surely, those events are having an impact on my society, and societies around the world.  For the better?  I don’t think so.  It seems to be for only a few people who are in power.

Behind the leaders I have noticed there are many others planting seeds of disruption and encouragement.  Why?  I believe those people, through their influencing, have gained a position of power but know they cannot be blamed for what is happening.  They are behind the leaders, who are the face of these new ideas, and have no concept of how they are being used. The leaders enjoy the adulation, but the leader will always be blamed for the wrong things, whereas those egging them on, will be able to disappear without any judgement.

This blog and podcast that I am starting today, is where I can give an indication of how I see the world and what I am going to discuss over the coming year.  Power will be one of the categories, so will family, and even religion has a lot to answer for in regards to what is currently happening in this world.

I am over eighty as I was born in London early in the Second World War. In fact, the day I was born Germany began bombing London.  I have lived through air-raids and food rationing; travelled to Australia by ship as a child and adopted Australia as my home.  Over 50 years ago I met and married an extremely intelligent man and we are still happily married.  We’ve given birth to a daughter and when she was three fostered a teenage girl. Hubby and I have worked in both TV and Radio in the UK and Australia and on top of that have experienced many things while travelling around the world.

I am not religious.  I turned away from that when an Anglican Church in the USA removed a Bishop merely because he was a member of the Third Gender, a homosexual.  That to me wasn’t a Christian act, so Christianity lost me as a believer.  But I am spiritual, along with many other people disappointed with religion.  I feel there is something around us that guides and assists when needed, not what religious doctrine preaches.

Nothing I will be writing in the coming weeks are just opinions; they are all facts.  Things I have heard, seen and experienced.  Things that have given me the knowledge to now be disappointed at what has happened to the World since I was born.  What I discuss over the following fifty-two weeks will give you a chance to compare.  Chance for you to choose how you would like to see the world.

Currently our World is at War with Its Self.  I would like to see it find its way again. As I grew up in a war-torn Europe, I am not saying this was the best time to live, but what is happening in the world today appears worse.  We seem to have been taken over by selfish and greedy people.  They are the ones we read about, their money and power make them feel better than others.  This is not the case.  You, me and every other person born on this planet has a right to live here. No more or less than the rich or the poor. It is time we took a stand and demanded our rights. All of us.

It became obvious to me several years ago, that the world and our societies have changed so much that this planet, as we know it, is no longer just a ball of matter with many countries on different continents.  Communications, travel and world trade has changed our lives so much that everyone on this planet has become a neighbour and as such we need to learn to live on this planet in harmony.  Those people who are generating disruption, can see this and will move heaven and earth to see this doesn’t happen.  This is because a society where we live as one, with rules and regulations that unite us, are not what these people want.  Causing mayhem is the only way they can keep control.

I believe an adult’s behaviour is based on what happened to them when they were a child.  Fraud said so years ago, but over the years I have discovered that one’s childhood and what is learnt from parents and adults around them is the biggest influencer.  They hear, see things and believe.  The Catholic Church has always said “Give me a child before it is seven and we have them for the rest of their lives”.  If we, as Adults are not careful, we can unwittingly create a child that displays bad thoughts and habits.

Let me tell you a story.  I once had a friend who suffered badly from hay fever. She had read that eating locally made honey helped, so she purchased a large tub. It worked, but the result didn’t last as long as my friend would have liked, so she quite often opened the tub and took out a large spoonful during the day.  It so happened that most of the times she was medicating herself with honey, her three-year-old was with her. Now you know when take a spoonful of honey it starts to drip and run back into the container?  Well, this happened regularly to my friend, and she had a habit of saying ‘bugger’ when it started to drip back into the tub.  One day after about a week of starting this regime, as my friend pulled the tub out of the cupboard, her three-year-old said ‘bugger’.  Suddenly my friend realised what she had been doing and that her three-year-old thought the product was called bugger. She quickly corrected the mistake and was very careful what she said around her three-year-old from then on.    If anyone tells me a child doesn’t understand what is being talked about in the house or to them, at a very young age, I will never believe them.  How adults treat and speak to and around their children has the biggest impact, especially before they turn seven.

How we bring up a child will have an effect on it for the rest of its life.  One way or another.  Is this the answer to the greed that has developed in the world?  We have always had greedy people, and that greed has always caused problems, but I have observed that since the mid-1980s greed has become a powerful tool.  Large companies making money out of natural minerals from our planet, use that money to buy and coerce politicians to allow them to grow bigger and damage the planet more.  They don’t own those minerals although they make you think they do.  We as inhabitants of this planet own them.  They belong to everyone.  But only a few see the results of the digging and drilling supposedly done for our benefit.  The greed of a few has given them Power.  If they don’t like the rules and regulations, they go to great lengths to change them.

Then there is communication.  What a change that has caused.  Every country in the world now has the ability to talk with and to each other.  But the niceties that were part of society seem to have disappeared since the introduction of the internet.  Whereas rules and regulations were in place for organisations and people using previous mediums such as newspapers and magazines, television, radio and even theatre, no such rules and regulations stipulate what can and cannot be presented on the internet.  The system has been allowed to run riot, and is being overrun by cults, porn, and not just movies, but obscene videos, and much more.  Anyone can view it, and anyone can show and say what they want.  Social media has only helped to increase the problem, and more and more people around the world are subjected to the ideology of people wanting Power.

With this I am not saying here that the internet is all bad and should be removed from society.  No.  The information one can find on the internet and the promotions through social media are giving everyone an opportunity to have a library in their home and a means of showing others what they can do.  Unfortunately, with every invention there is always a bad side that emerges.  We need rules and regulations that need to be adhered to.  This is not easy, but if we want to control how the Internet is used then we need a new system to ensure inappropriate information and lies are not part of it.

I and many others are disappointed with the way the world is moving.  Not only are there wars, and talk of wars, there is physical and mental abuse of children and people.  Most people in power now a days only care for themselves, and making money has a different meaning.  No longer are people looking at money as a way of survival, it’s a way to show the world how great we are.  It is such a shame.

Maybe going back to things as they were years ago, sounds good, but you can’t go back in time.  Once the genie is out of the bottle that’s it.  But we can learn to improve, and change the bad things in society so, as one planet we can live, work, play and learn to love and assist each other.  Hopefully my podcast and blog over the next 52 weeks will help make you and others think and start working towards a new world.  Not something to dream about.  Something to work towards.

Many people will disagree with what I say, and they have that right, but there will be a great number who will listen and read what I broadcast and write and see sense in what I say.  To those people I say, ‘Welcome’.  The world needs more people like you for this planet to survive.  Let’s all spread the word and encourage every country of this planet, Earth, to work together, so we can save it from ourselves.  Then, and only then, will it become a harmonious planet of all of us living as individuals.

All it takes is one person to start the conversation, and slowly we can make our planet a better and safer place to live on.  Why not plant the seed and see how far it will grow?

If you find my blog of interest you might like to tune into my Podcast.  Same title same day.  All the subjects I will be covering in this blog with be discussed on the Podcast at the same time.

So why not join me, Julie Finch-Scally with either the podcast and/or this blog for The World at War with Itself.  I’ll be back next week and start the discussion about families.  The most important people in everyone’s life.  Until then, take care.
